Campbell Airstrip Road is the only way to or from the Stuckagain Heights neighborhood, home to over 100 families. It also provides access to at least six popular trailheads that lead into Far North Bicentennial Park (FNBP) and Chugach State Park. In the 1996 MOA Official Strees and Highways Plan, Campbell Airstrip Road is designated as a Country Lane. This designation acknowledges the value the local residents and community put on preserving the rural character of the roadway. This road and trail upgrade project has been recommended in adopted plans such as:
- 1985 Far North Bicentennial Park Master Plan
- 1997 Areawide Trails Plan
- 2005 Anchorage Bowl Park, Natural Resource and Recreation Facility Plan
All three plans recommend this segment of the road be improved and the multi-use trail be extended through this section. This project would provide safe access to both residents and park users and is a top priority for the Basher Community Council.
August 18, 2017 UPDATE:
We're getting closer! And although paving is done the project is not yet complete. There is still a lot of additional work to do such as: grading, seeding, light pole installation, crosswalk at Tudor, and cleanup. Much of this work will be done at the edges of road and trail; so please respect and obey the detour and closure signage until the project is totally finished. Thank you for your patience!
June 30, 2017 UPDATE:
Work will resume on the Campbell Airstrip Road and Trail project on July 5th, immediately following the 4th of July weekend.
June 2, 2017 UPDATE:
